Chamber Music by Franz Danzi (1763 – 1826)

Played on period instruments by ther phenomenal players of Ensemble f2, this wonderful music is full oif wit, charm, great tunes and great excitement!

At the heart of the ensemble is an original Viennese fortepiano by Johann Fritz from c.1815. This rather frail-looking instrument has the most exquisite tone and an incredible range of tone-colour-modifying effects, including a battery of drums, bells and cymbal clash (known as Janissary or Turkish Music). All of these are put to good use in this music.

Volume 1 features his dramatic and turbulent Quintet for piano and wind in D minor, op.41, the rousing horn sonata in E flat op. 28 and the B flat clarinet sonata op. 56.

Volume 2 spotlights Danzi’s Grand Sonata Op 62 for basset horn and piano, the Op. 44 E minor horn sonata and the Piano and Wind Quintet Op 54, no. 2

Musicians appearing include: Anneke Scott (natural horn), Jane Booth (clarinet), Steven Devine (fortepiano), James Eastaway (oboe), Katy Bircher (flute) and Ursula Leveaux (bassoon)
